Our range of safety edges are designed to guard against any possible shearing or crushing points on electric gates and barriers. They are to be used on sliding and swing gates where there is any movement and risk of crushing. Safety edges are a rubber profile with a contact strip in the middle which triggers an automatic stop when the contact strip detects any contact. The rubber of the safety edge compresses, providing protection for people and objects from crushing. They are an easy to install option that provides greater safety for your electric gate or barrier.
To be the most effective, the safety edge should match the size of the space. We recommend that you conduct a full risk assessment of the proposed installation to highlight any potential areas for crushing, trapping or shearing and that you can fit appropriate safety equipment. We recommend that you use a combination safety edges as well as photocells for all potential hazards.
All gate systems in the UK need to comply with BS-EN13241-1 & EN-138491-1 safety standards. This includes the installation of safety edge systems with sliding and swing gates.

How Do Safety Edges Work?
After the professional risk assessment, safety edges are applied along the areas of the gate where there is a potential hazard. When the edge comes into contact with an obstacle, the rubber profile compresses down and applies pressure to the contact strip. The contact strips are wired together in a chain using connectors back to the gate’s main control panel (transmitter).
When the safety edge encounters an obstacle, it immediately sends a signal to the control panel to stop and reverse the motor away from the danger/obstacle. The obstacle could be a car, a person, a child’s toy, an animal, and more. The safety edge prevents damage and injuries that could be quite serious if the gate was allowed to close.
The safety edges are fixed by screwing the aluminium profile to the gate or post. The rubber profile clicks into place once the mounting tracks have been positioned. The safety edges are easy to install or replace.

Each edge consists of an aluminium retainer backing, rubber cover, a resistive end cap, and a cable end up to 2.5m.
As noted earlier, safety edging is essential for any gate to ensure safety by preventing trapping points and collisions with the gate.
Different depth safety edges are available; the larger the safety edge, the safer the gate ranging from 15mm to 85mm. The smaller depth, such as 15mm, are ideal for trapping fingers and small trapping points.
Safety edges can be used in conjunction with the INDUS kit.
