DHF 1 Day training course in April

AUTOMATED GATE SAFETY COURSE INFORMATION

This one-day course addresses the safety of work in the automated gate and traffic barrier perimeter systems. It features examples of past failures and prosecutions, together with practical risk assessment to help reinforce the key learning points. Learning is heavily focused on, and supported by, use of DHF TS 011:2018 - Code of practice for installation, repair and maintenance of automated gates and traffic barriers.

At the end of each module there is a short test and there will be a written risk assessment task but this cannot be considered a qualification as the course is offered on an attendance basis.

Successful completion is rewarded with a certificate as proof of attendance.

MODULES

  • Introduction
  • Requirements for safety and testing:
  • Commissioning checks
  • Risk assessment methodology
  • New system legislation overview
  • Structural integrity
  • Electrical safety and safety device test category
  • Enclosure fences, guards and safety distances
  • Crush, impact, shear and draw-in hazard protection
  • Testing of hazard control systems
  • Residual hazards and control
  • Existing system legislation overview

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this course the candidate will have:

  • A thorough understanding of standards applying to automated gate and barrier systems
  • The ability to accurately conduct and document a risk assessment
  • Knowledge of the different types of system
  • An overview of legislation

Candidates cannot be considered competent installation or maintenance operatives on completion of this course as it does not include any practical or craft-based learning. Although it discusses the problems, standards and pitfalls of electrical work in this environment, it does not provide the knowledge or experience necessary to be considered electrically skilled. These very important craft-based skills and knowledge must be gained by supervised field experience and by attending relevant manufacturers’ product specific training.
